Why the clean should happen right after the renovation
Fine dust sets in. The longer construction dust, plaster and paint particles sit in crevices, vents and on surfaces, the harder they are to remove. After two to three weeks, loose dust has often bonded with ambient humidity and formed a film that takes significantly more effort to shift.
Smells linger longer. Fresh paint, adhesive and floor coatings smell strongest in the first weeks. An early clean combined with ventilation removes volatile residues faster, before they settle into carpets, curtains or upholstery.
Viewings don't wait. Berlin landlords often show vacant flats within days of the trades finishing. A flat with visible construction dust on window sills or paint splatter on the floor costs an impression — and sometimes the next applicant chooses someone else's listing.

The season brings a few specifics a pure summer checklist doesn't cover:

- Wet-weather dirt: tradespeople track in more dirt on rainy autumn days. Floors and entryways need extra attention accordingly.
- First heating cycle: when the heating comes on for the first time after a renovation, construction dust on radiators burns off and creates a smell. Radiators should be thoroughly cleaned before the first heating cycle.
- Earlier darkness: late-afternoon cleaning or inspection appointments need enough artificial light for a thorough final check.
